Opening hours are not kitchen hours: Google Maps, TheFork, KitchenWatch and MangiaNow compared
Opening hours tell you when a place is open, not when the kitchen serves hot food – in Italy the whole afternoon often falls in between. To eat hot food between 2 and 6 pm you need kitchen hours, and few services show them.
In Italy most kitchens close between about 2:30 and 7 pm. MangiaNow lists only restaurants serving hot food today between 2 and 6 pm, kitchen hours first, plus driving time. Starting in the Langhe, Piedmont. One-time price €0.99, no subscription. Without purchase there is no restaurant list.
Why opening hours mislead
Bars, enoteche and wine shops are often open in the afternoon while the kitchen is not. In our Langhe data, sources on opening and kitchen hours disagree for 6 places (as of 29.10.2026).
The typical gap runs from about 14:30 to 19:00: lunch service until about 14:30 (last orders often earlier), dinner from about 19:00.

FAQ
Does Google Maps show kitchen hours?
Only if the venue adds separate hours next to its opening hours. Usually only the venue’s opening hours are shown.
What is the difference between MangiaNow and KitchenWatch?
KitchenWatch shows open kitchens from diner reports, with a focus on the US. MangiaNow covers only 2–6 pm, with kitchen hours, source and source date per place, starting in the Langhe.
Why doesn’t “open” on Google mean the kitchen is open?
Listed opening hours often apply to the venue (bar, wine shop), not the kitchen, which can close earlier. In our Langhe data, sources disagree for 6 places. MangiaNow therefore only shows places with a confirmed kitchen.
How much does MangiaNow cost?
€0.99 as a one-time purchase, no subscription. The app cannot be used without the purchase; there is no free version.
